Is anyone having problems with uterine fibroid pain during pregnancy?

One of my visitors here is having a problem with extreme pain from her fibroids during her pregnancy.

Anna: Are there any women out there who can tell me how to endure pregnancy fibroid pain?

I’m 7.5+ months pregnant with at least 8 fibroids, 3 of which are just over 5.7 cm each and growing. They were all discovered when I became pregnant. Most of them don’t bother me but two are crammed down at the bottom of my uterus just over the birth canal. The pain from those two is so bad I haven’t slept more than 3.5 hours in weeks.

The Dr. says I am experiencing ‘degridation’ as the fibroids grow which sends a chemical into the body causing this unbelievable, constant pain. For the pain, I take frequent warmish baths, stay in bed and take Tylenol which does very little (if anything) but I’m told that Tylenol is the only pain killer that’s safe for the baby.

First – Have any of you experienced this kind of extreme pain during pregnancy?
Second – What can I do about it ?

I’m sure I’ll survive this … women are tough. But, I’d like to be able to get out of bed and enjoy a little bit of sunshine in the next two months. Heck, just having a short break from the horrible pain would be a blessing. Frankly … at this moment 8 hours of labor sounds like a cakewalk compared to months of this. =)

Your input is quite welcome.

      Hi Tylee,
I’m so sorry you are hurting so much! I haven’t experienced this, but I would suggest you read all of he posts in this section – if any of the links don’t work, it’s because there is no longer a webmaster to fix them – but if you put in the word: wordpress. after geekwithfibroids in the address, it will get you to the older comments – for example, if the link that doesn’t work is:
      http://blog.geekwithfibroids.com/questions/
      change that to
      http://blog.geekwithfibroids.wordpress.com/questions/
(the first link sends you to a webpage that says Geek With Fibroids – but it looks totally different and isn’t part of this blog)

If you look at all the old posts you will get some suggestions that might help (including other medications), find out how other women managed, how long it lasted for them, and at least feel less alone!
      Take care!

I realize this post is a bit older now…My son is 2…and I still remember the HORRIFIC PAIN I endured for weeks upon weeks!!! its like being stabbed by a twisting knife over and over and over…like electrical impulses of pain that are unrelentless!! There are no words to describe it..It left me scared and depressed…Now we are thinking about having #2… I am once again terrified of this pain returning.. I have a plan in motion to not ever be alone from the first moment of pain I feel to the end of this next pregnancy. I am scared to have an attack of pain that leaves me unable to move, to speak, to breathe all while trying to watch my son….have you had any more kids? how was the next pregnancy?

Having read this I thought it was really informative. I appreciate you taking the time and energy to
put this informative article together. I once again
find myself personally spending way too much time both reading and posting comments.
But so what, it was still worthwhile!

Hi. I too am pregnant with fibroids and extreme pain I have been given every pain killer under the sun. The pain has been so bad that I have had no choice but to take the pain meds, while waiting to see a gyny. I saw one today and was basically told I could have the baby but most likely would have to continue the pain meds during my pregnancy. My obvious question was how is that ok for the baby she told me there are lots of other woman who have the same problem and take the same meds the babies are born addicted to the meds and then have to been wiened off. For myself I can’t do that to a innocent child and I’ve asked myself can I deal with this pain for another 7 months and really the choice is up to you. I personally might terminate the pregnancy then take care of the fibroids to prevent this in future. I’m very sorry to hear you are going threw this I know it’s not easy but all I can say is educate yourself on fibroids and pain killers and be honest wit yourself ask yourself what you can handle and what you can’t there is no wrong decision it’s just a hard one to make. But it’s yours to choose good luck take care and god bless really hope things get better for you

I did experience the very same pain you had during pregnancy, but fortunately found a really great helpful article about it. I learned there are lots of really helpful herbs, i.e. cayenne peppers and horsetail are outstanding at helping with pain. I avoided all meds during my pregnancy, even avoided caffeine Good Luck!

Hey Julie B., do you happen to have a link to that article? My wife is in so much pain and we are not excited about the idea of painkillers. Anything helps. Thanks!

      • kora Says:

Indomethacin!!! It helped me. Talk to the doctor, if I remember correct, it is ok to take it only before 33 week or 35 if not earlier, sorry, do not remember.

I just got out of the hospital I was there for 3 days. I have one fibroid outside my uterus. I cried of pain. Im 22 weeks pregnant my OB/GYN prescribed me indomethacin and percocet. I have a little disconfor when walking. Percocet has helped me because its just tylenol with oxycodone which helps me fall sleep alivianting the pain. I dont take it every day, just when I really need it. Talk to ur doctor.

Undeniably believe that which you said. Your favorite reason seemed to be on the net the simplest thing to be aware of. I say to you, I definitely get irked while people think about worries that they just do not know about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top as well as defined out the whole thing without having side-effects , people can take a signal. Will likely be back to get more. Thanks

I went to ER Monday for lower abdominal pain , doctors said it was round ligament & sent me home .
I went back Thursday for lower pain because it was intolerable by this point. Found out it was a fibroid . They believe it’s degenerating. Kept me overnight & put me on indomethacin for 3 days.

    • Kecia R Moore Says:

Hi Kizzy, I remember the pain can be very severe. I actually had clearance to take ibuprofen to take it away, because my midwife was concerned that the pain could send me into preterm labor. I also used acupuncture to control the pain as well. My pregnancies and deliveries went on without an issue. I’m asking the Lord to give you wisdom and relief. I also pray that you and your baby will remain safe. God bless 💕
